Management Development for Reproductive
Health Programme in Myanmar
....................................................
WHO provided support to the Ministry of Health in Myanmar
to pilot-test a township RH programme model in two townships. To
strengthen the management capacity of local health teams, ICOMP
designed a management development framework in 2003.
A management training needs assessment was carried out in 10 townships.
Discussions were also held with key stakeholders, which suggested
that the management development programme should be for improving
coverage of
specific RH services/interventions including those for birth spacing,
maternal health and STI/HIV/ AIDS.
A training manual was developed with a focus on strengthening analytical
and implementation skills of township health teams. Using this curriculum,
a one-week management training was organised for six township health
teams supported by UNFPA.
This curriculum is being used currently by a local consultant to
expand the training of teams in other townships.
