OBJECTIVE BACKGROUND In the past, most NGOs in Indonesia have been implementing essential RH programmes based on the availability of continuous financial support of donor agencies. Considering that many International Donor Agencies would likely be phasing out gradually, the NGOs should identify the most appropriate alternative approach to maintain their essential RH programmes. The sustainability of RH programmes provided by NGOs, complementary to the government-based programmes, is a very crucial factor in achieving the national goal of improving the RH status of men and women in Indonesia. In sustaining the necessary services by NGOs for the community members, a feasible alternative approach should be identified to balance between the operational cost of RH services and income that could be generated from the community. Reproductive health services, especially for the lower socio-economic group, should not be perceived as a commercial commodity. On the other hand, it should also not be considered as mere charitable activities since it requires financial support. Combined with these concepts, the social marketing approach would be an appropriate alternative solution that would enable NGOs to survive and simultaneously provide affordable, quality, essential RH services. This project is innovative as nine selected NGOs will actually help one another to improve their capacity to reach sustainability through inter-NGO collaboration. The YKB provides the technical assistance needed by the other nine NGOs. SCOPE |
MAIN
ACTIVITIES A five-day training workshop session was organised in Jakarta by inviting selected NGOs to share their previous experiences on RH programmes. Following the training workshop, each NGO developed its own plan of action with the assistance of the YKB. The POA will be implemented by each NGO in its own service area. To date, the YKB had conducted 2 training workshops on Self-Reliant RH Management to expose managers and providers of 9 NGOs on practical strategies in reaching and managing self- reliant RH programmes. The YKB also provides continuous technical assistance to the NGOs. MANAGEMENT FEATURES
