It strives to achieve a world population in balance with a healthy global environment and resource base. Established in 1969, the Institute, with members in 172 countries has established its headquarters at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. This website introduces the programmes undertaken by the Institute, the issues (over-population, urbanisation, marginal farming, desertification, global climate change and resource shortage), its public policy advocacy and monthly events, users can join the 'Action E-List' to receive legislative alerts pertaining to population issues. The official newsletter of the Institute, POPLINE deals exclusively with global population concerns. The Institute publishes six bi-monthly issues of POPLINE annually. Users can access the POPLINE on-line. Educational institutes, educators, non-profit organisations and population stabilisation advocates may receive POPLINE free. For editors, news directors and journalists, there is a Global Media Awards for those who have contributed to creating awareness of population problems through their journalistic endeavours in a meritorious manner.
