6th APCRSHR Satellite Session on Linking HIV with Sexual and Reproductive Health – What Have We Missed? (21 October 2011)

6th APCRSHR Satellite Session on Linking HIV with Sexual and Reproductive Health – What Have We Missed? (21 October 2011)

Satellite Session on Linking HIV with Sexual and Reproductive Health – What Have We Missed?
Date:  21 October 2011
Time:  17:15 – 18:45
Venue:  (to be announced)

Over the years, the rationale for SRH/HIV linkages has been articulated and endorsed through a series of key international commitments, including the International Conference on Population and Development (1994), Glion Call to Action (2004), Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS (2006), and Maputo Plan of Action (2006) and Asia Pacific Operation Framework for Linking HIV/STI Services with Reproductive, Adolescent, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Services (2008)

Despite several initiatives, progress at programme level has been slower than policy and services because both SRH and HIV service system have often been well structured in the two, vertical “health” and “disease control” systems.   Key challenges include (a) technical support on suitable model for different country context (b) harmonization of budget and (c) monitoring and evaluation including economic analysis.

In view of the above background, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Council on Management of Population Programmes (ICOMP) is organizing a joint Satellite Session on Linking HIV with Sexual and Reproductive Health – What Have We Missed? at the 6th Asia-Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR), Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The objectives of the session are to assess progress made since the 5th APCRSHR; share country experiences; and identify key actions in enhancing SRH HIV Linkages in the region.

Chair
Dr. Marijke Wijnroks, SRHR/HIV Ambassador and Deputy Director for Social Development at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands
